The search is now on for Pluckley’s Resident-of the Year 2016. This award is made to a villager who has undertaken an outstanding contribution to the life of the village over the past year. If you would like to nominate someone to be recognised in this way please email our Parish Clerk, Caroline Levett, at [email protected] or write to her at 9 Ashenden, Smarden, Kent TN27 8RT saying why you think he or she deserves the award this year. Nominations close at the end of November, and the Parish Council will decide on the winner at its meeting on 13th December.
There appears to be a spate of incidents recently and worryingly this includes residential houses and one business. Please be aware of your and your neighbours’ properties. Please check security lights and make sure doors and windows are locked at night or when you leave the house. Please also look at a new facility called Nextdoor.com here. It’s free to Pluckley residents and after only a few weeks we have over 70 members.
After the AGM which was held on 11th September, Pluckley Tennis Club is going from strength to strength. Pluckley’s Neighbourhood Plan has now been approved by the Parish Council and formally submitted to Ashford Borough Council (ABC), with its supporting documents. ABC will now review the document and publish it for a six week consultation period. After that, they will decide whether it is ready to go to an independent examiner. Following that examination, it will come back to the parish for a public referendum.

Pluckley Women’s Collective (PWC) was able to conjure up beautiful sunny weather for its August event, a family BBQ and picnic which was held on the recreation ground last Saturday. There was something for everyone including games and music and an ice cream van was in attendance. Pluckley residents were able to spend a thoroughly relaxing afternoon and enjoy delicious food courtesy of Gary Boodle, our local butcher and Helen Baird at Pluckley Farm Shop. A big thank you for their support and generosity.
Thanks are also due to the Parish Council for the loan of the Pavilion and the marquees, to Chris Housman for supplying the music, to Martin Chambers for providing an excellent BBQ and finally to the many helpers; ladies, gentlemen, children and dogs who came along on Saturday morning to help get everything ready. The biggest task was the erection of the marquees but helpers managed to follow orders at the right time so that much fun was had by all.
Finally thank you to everyone who came along and made the event such a success. Hopefully it will become an annual event.

Pluckley’s new defibrillator is now installed in a yellow box on the side wall of the village store – thanks to Sena. It is fully automated, and designed to be used by the public without any training. We hope that it won’t need to be used, but it’s reassuring to know that it’s there.
The Accounting & Governance Statements for the Parish Council for the year ended 31st March 2016 are now available on this site on the Parish Council “Other Publications” page under ‘Finance and Governance‘.

The Parish Council has been aware for some time that mobile phone reception in and around our village is patchy. We have written to the 4 main network providers, but they have only replied in fairly general terms. In order to raise more specific concerns with the operators, we invited residents to complete a short survey based upon their experience as mobile phone users.
Thank you to all those of you who took the time to complete the survey which closed at the end of July. Results and conclusions will be communicated shortly and will be used by the Parish Council with the objective of improving mobile reception in Pluckley.
